In Situ Geotechnical Tests

Fast, reliable in-situ soil strength data — without waiting on the lab

The Light Weight Penetrometer Test gives our geotechnical team rapid, on-site insight into soil bearing capacity and compaction quality, particularly useful for shallow investigations, small structures, and pavement or embankment quality control

What the Test Involves

A calibrated weight is dropped repeatedly onto a driving rod fitted with a cone tip, and the penetration resistance of the soil is recorded at each blow. The resulting data is correlated to dynamic cone penetration index values, which our engineers use to estimate soil density, compaction level, and bearing capacity at shallow depths.

Where We Use It

  • Quality control on compacted fill and embankments
  • Preliminary bearing capacity checks for light structures
  • Pavement subgrade assessment
  • Rapid site screening ahead of a full geotechnical investigation

Why It Matters

Not every project needs — or can wait for — a full borehole investigation. The LWPT gives us fast, field-verified data that's accurate enough to guide early decisions and flag areas that need deeper investigation, saving time without sacrificing the integrity of our findings

What You Get

A clear, documented penetration profile with our engineers' interpretation of soil bearing capacity and compaction adequacy — delivered as part of your project's broader geotechnical report.
